Project Overview

This project is located in the Republic of Sudan, Northeast Africa, and was completed in January 2018. It is a football stadium grandstand tensile membrane canopy project designed to provide weather protection and improve spectator comfort. The canopy measures approximately 63 m × 17 m, with a total steel consumption of about 34 tons. The main structure adopts a steel framework treated with epoxy zinc-rich primer and blue finish paint, ensuring enhanced durability and corrosion resistance. The roofing system uses 1100 g/㎡ white PVDF architectural membrane, featuring B1 fire-retardant performance, fully compliant with public and municipal building safety standards.

Challenge - Solution

Located above the stadium grandstand, the canopy was required to provide effective sun shading and rain protection, while maintaining a modern and clean architectural appearance. The structure needed to integrate with the existing reinforced concrete grandstand columns. Based on the site conditions and functional requirements, we designed a cap-shaped tensile membrane structure, with the membrane tensioned upward using threaded rods. This solution is structurally efficient, visually simple, and significantly enhances the overall identity and aesthetics of the stadium grandstand.
