Project Overview

This project is located in Nanhai District, Foshan, Guangdong Province, China, and was finished by our company in May 2022. It covers a swimming pool of 30m x 10m. The roof measures 35m × 15m, with a projected area of approximately 525 m². The structure uses about 10 tons of steel, with a membrane coverage area of approximately 630m². The roof is covered with white PVDF architectural membrane (1100 g/m²), which meets B1 fire rating standards.

Challenge - Solution

The gym is located on the fourth floor, while the swimming pool is positioned on the rooftop of the fifth floor. As Foshan is situated in the southeastern coastal region of China and is frequently affected by typhoons, this project requires careful consideration of rooftop wind speed as well as material transportation challenges. Unlike ground-level installations, rooftop projects involve stricter requirements for structural design. The membrane structure must be designed based on the building’s load-bearing capacity, foundation conditions, and the existing structural framework, with corresponding structural checks and verification carried out to ensure safety and compliance.

Installation - Support

During installation, cranes are employed to lift and deliver materials to the rooftop, effectively overcoming the challenges associated with high-elevation construction and limited on-site access. The foundation had to be built on the load-bearing beams at the outer edge of the building, which meant the installation was carried out at height. To make this workable and safe, we carefully positioned the foundations to match the existing beams and used cranes to lift materials to the rooftop, with proper safety measures in place throughout the process.
