Project Overview
Project Location: Macau Maritime Museum (Marine and Water Bureau)
Coverage Area: 417 square meters
Project Type: Membrane Structure Modification & Renewal Project
Project Background: As an important public relaxation area, the original tensile umbrella canopy at the Macau Maritime Museum’s open-air cafe suffered from membrane aging and severe corrosion of some steel structures and accessories due to prolonged exposure to a high-salt coastal environment. Jutent was commissioned to conduct a comprehensive structural diagnosis, component replacement, and membrane renewal for this facility.
Thách thức - Giải pháp
Challenge 1: The “Reverse Engineering” Dilemma Due to Lost Original Drawings
Because the facility was built many years ago, all original architectural and structural drawings had been lost. How to accurately restore the complex curved shape of the umbrella canopy without any data reference became the primary challenge.
Jutent Solution: We initiated a high-precision “reverse engineering” procedure. Jutent’s senior structural engineers personally led a team to the Macau site, utilizing professional equipment to conduct comprehensive 3D dimensional surveying of the existing framework. Based on massive amounts of measured on-site data, we precisely reconstructed a 3D structural model in our software, providing a reliable data benchmark for subsequent steel component customization and membrane cutting.
Challenge 2: Structural Corrosion Treatment & Restoring the Original Morphology
On-site inspections revealed severe corrosion in some steel structural members and core connection accessories, posing safety hazards. The client mandated that while completely eliminating these hazards, the classic shape and visual proportions of the original canopy must be perfectly preserved.
Jutent Solution: Our engineers conducted statistical and stress evaluations on every corroded component on-site. For the damaged parts, we carried out 1:1 precise replication and anti-corrosion treatment at our factory based on the reconstructed 3D model. This ensured seamless integration of new and old components, reinforcing structural safety while 100% restoring the original aesthetic of the cafe canopy.

During the critical construction and delivery phase, Jutent demonstrated rigorous engineering management standards:
Full-Process On-Site Technical Supervision: For the complex tasks of dismantling the old membrane and replacing structures, Jutent dispatched professional engineers for continuous on-site supervision. From the safe removal of old components to the precise positioning of new steel structures and the tensioning of the new membrane, we provided comprehensive on-site guidance to ensure absolute accuracy at every stress node.
Marine-Grade Weather-Resistant Material Selection: Considering the intense UV radiation and high salt corrosion environment of the Maritime Museum, this renewal specifically utilized an imported 950g/㎡ PTFE architectural membrane. The PTFE membrane offers outstanding tensile strength, excellent self-cleaning properties, and an exceptionally long lifespan, easily withstanding extreme marine climate challenges and keeping the canopy looking pristine for years to come.
