Project Overview
This project is located in Huiwen Town, Wenchang City, Hainan Province, China, and was completed in June 2023. It is a swallow-inspired tensile membrane structure for a kindergarten, consisting of two soft-edge membranes of different sizes, primarily providing shade for the children’s play area.
The steel structure is treated with an epoxy zinc-rich primer and white finish coat for enhanced durability and corrosion resistance. The roof is covered with 1100 g/㎡ white PVDF architectural membrane, featuring B1 fire-retardant performance and meeting public building safety standards.

Challenge - Solution
The client requested a shaded canopy for the sandbox and small water play area, combining natural aesthetics with practical functionality. Based on the site dimensions and usage needs, our team designed a swallow-shaped soft-edge tensile membrane structure, creating a lightweight and visually dynamic form. The varying heights of the membrane edges provide effective sun shading and rain protection.
Installation - Support
On-site installation was guided by our technical engineers. Key challenges included controlling the inclination of columns and accurately fixing the membrane steel cables to ensure proper drainage and prevent water accumulation. The project was completed successfully, meeting all design requirements.
